Pallet elevator eases access and boosts OEE
KP Components is one of Denmark's largest and most advanced machine manufacturers. KP Components manufactures hydraulic components for organisations all around the world, and the factory's machines operates 24 hours a day. Translyft's specially designed pallet elevator is currently assisting them in increasing their OEE (Overall equipment effectiveness).
The challenge
KP Components wanted to re-establish output from their FMS system. The output had become too low because there was not enough space around the stations. Previously, both the unmachined and machined parts were palletised around the stations, but the four machines required at least four pallets each for optimum utilisation, but there was no room for this in the old setup. Employees therefore wasted time walking from the machines to pick up and drop off the parts. In addition, there was a risk of work-related accidents because employees had to climb a step while carrying the items.
The solution
The solution was a specially designed hydraulic pallet lift, developed in close collaboration with KP Components to ensure they got the best possible solution. The pallet lift provides access to 18 pallet spaces right next to the machines.
Operators can use them at the repo and the stations where they work, eliminating the need for them to leave the station for products both before and after machining.
The result
The solution gives employees easy access to all items. Since the pallets can be lifted and lowered directly from the area where employees work, the task becomes more ergonomic because all things can be accessible at the appropriate working height for each person. Employees don't have to leave the machines to do their work, which makes it easier to keep the machines running.
Additionally, the increased pallet spaces allow for better preparation of subsequent workpieces. The machine utilisation rate is normalised, and the cost of the pallet elevator is quickly recouped.
The solution has provided us with full benefits, including a normalised proportion of machine performance and a better working environment for our employees.
