Matas automates warehouse - two work stations
  • The challenge

Matas previously relied on manual processes. Employees walked around the warehouse, picked goods, scanned products, and packed orders. This setup required extensive movement and repeated handling of goods.

In addition, operations were under pressure during peak periods such as Black Friday, where it was difficult to recruit temporary workers, limiting flexibility and capacity.

The work was also physically demanding. Employees walked long distances and lifted boxes multiple times during packing. This created challenges related to efficiency, consistency, and the working environment.

  • The solution

Matas has installed an AutoStore system in a new central warehouse. The robots retrieve goods from approximately 50,000 product numbers and deliver them to 48 picking and packing stations. AutoStore workstations are designed with fixed platforms, limiting ergonomic flexibility, as employees must adapt to a fixed working height.

To solve this, Translyft delivered 48 SCB 500 H work platforms. The platforms are integrated into the workstations and allow each employee to adjust the working height individually. Translyft’s solution ensures that all packing tasks can be performed at an optimal working height, regardless of the operator’s physical build.

The SCB 500 H from Translyft provides stable support during work. It reduces the need for bending, stretching, and repeated lifting and improves ergonomics.

By combining AutoStore automation with Translyft lifting technology, Matas has created a workstation design that supports both high capacity and controlled working conditions.

  • The results

The new solution has changed warehouse operations. Automation reduces the need for walking long distances and limits the number of times each box is handled.

With Translyft work platforms, employees work at a consistent and ergonomically correct height throughout the day. This reduces physical strain and supports stable productivity across shifts.

Matas can now handle both daily volumes and peak periods with fewer employees and greater stability. The need for temporary labor has been reduced while maintaining capacity during high demand.

The combination of AutoStore and Translyft provides a structured and scalable solution. It supports efficient order fulfillment across Denmark while ensuring a safe and ergonomic working environment.

“We are very happy with our setup. Even though our employees vary in height, we have ensured that everyone can work as ergonomically as possible at the stations.”
